«Radiolytica» tackles the dissemination of harmful information broadcast on local radio in humanitarian settings, using Eastern Congo as a case study. The spread of misinformation, disinformation and hate speech is a particular threat to humanitarian action, for example, by undermining public health efforts during epidemics. Existing online tools miss much of this content. We will develop a tool to transcribe and analyse radio content broadcast in vernacular languages using AI to better detect and understand harmful messages, especially those related to health. We will also test whether partnerships between local radios and humanitarian organisations improve radio content, helping shape more effective strategies for countering misinformation.
