Davos, January 2025 – At the AI House in Davos, an expert panel explored how artificial intelligence is transforming armed conflicts and humanitarian action. Moderated by Neil Davison (Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue), the session featured Jean-Marc Rickli (Geneva Centre for Security Policy), Isabel Ebert (UN Human Rights), Gilles Carbonnier(ICRC), and Rebeca Moreno Jimenez (UN Refugee Agency).
At minute 40, Gilles Carbonnier highlights two Humanitarian Action Challenges (HAC) projects:
- “Decision-Making for Cost-Effective Medical Supply” by ETH Zurich’s Prof. Stephan Wagner and Dr. Bublu Thakur-Weigold.
- “DISCO-DHRIVE” by EPFL’s Prof. Martin Jaggi and Prof. Mary-Anne Hartley.
The panel also discussed AI’s impact on areas like military decision-making, medical delivery, and family reunification, while addressing ethical and practical challenges in conflict zones. This session was part of the AI House Davos 2025 program, hosted by ETH AI Center, Merantix, G42, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, with support from KPMG, The University of Tokyo, and Poland as the guest country.
